You can use NLingo directly from your browser's address bar by registering it as a custom search engine. Type your shortcut followed by any text to translate it instantly - without opening a new tab or navigating anywhere first.
Browsers let you define a custom search engine with a keyword shortcut. When you type the keyword followed by a space in the address bar, the browser treats everything after it as a query and fills it into a URL template you define.
NLingo supports this pattern via query parameters:
https://nlingo.app/?translate={query}&from={source-language}&to={target-language}&mode={mode}
Replace {query} with %s — the placeholder browsers insert automatically.
mode value | Feature |
|---|---|
basic | Basic Translate (default) |
ai-translate | AI Translate (Pro) |
rephrase | Rephrase (Pro) |
grammar-check | Grammar Check (Pro) |
Omitting mode defaults to basic.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Search engine name | NLingo Eng → Vie |
| Shortcut | !nl |
URL with %s in place of query | https://nlingo.app/?translate=%s&from=en&to=vi&mode=basic |
To translate, type !nl in the address bar, press Space or Tab, then type your text and press Enter.
Change from, to, and mode to match your workflow.
Examples:
| Shortcut | Purpose | URL |
|---|---|---|
!nl | English → Vietnamese (Basic) | https://nlingo.app/?translate=%s&from=en&to=vi&mode=basic |
!vne | Vietnamese → English (Basic) | https://nlingo.app/?translate=%s&from=vi&to=en&mode=basic |
!nla | English → Vietnamese (AI Translate) | https://nlingo.app/?translate=%s&from=en&to=vi&mode=ai-translate |
Add as many shortcuts as you like — one per language pair or mode you use regularly.
If you want NLingo to open in a pinned tab instead of a fresh one, navigate to nlingo.app, right-click the tab, and select Pin tab. The address bar shortcut will then reuse that tab each time.
